An archive of Donald Trump’s tweets is available for download, after Twitter made history by suspending The President’s verified personal account. Issuing the suspension on Friday, January 8th, Twitter argues that Trump’s continued tweeting poses a “risk of further incitement of violence,” following the historic riots at The Capitol earlier this week. Account Suspended Following Riots
Trump’s suspension follows the riots of January 6th, when a large group of Trump supporters stormed Congress, apparently in protest of the inconsistencies in recent presidential election results. Five people were killed — including at least one police officer — and staffers and politicians either sheltered in place or fled to safety. The mob went from room to room taking selfies, toppling furniture, and stealing trophies. Notably, a laptop from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office was also reported stolen.
The implications of a tech company suspending a sitting President’s social media account are obvious; we won’t go into that here. A more immediate consequence of suspending Trump’s Twitter account is that all of his tweets also suddenly disappeared. The timeline of any President’s tweets is interesting from a historical perspective. Regardless of one’s politics, preserving tweets from historical figures seems worthwhile.
